A Tale of Two Cities was published in 1859. This was during the Victorian Era. This was the time when England was following the same path France had during the French Revolution. Charles Dickens wants to use A Tale of Two Cities to warn his readers in England how the revolution did not work out for the French, and hopefully steer them off the path of endless violence.
